Frequently asked questions
QUESTIONS ABOUT…
Boats
Our harbor will accommodate most fishing boats, jet skis, and pontoons. There’s a free public launch about a mile away, and neighboring Pikedale Lodge has a launch site available for a fee. Pikedale also rents out boats and pontoons.
Cabin Amenities
Included in each cabin are bed linens, blankets, garbage bags, dish soap, dish cloths, and toilet paper. Kitchens are stocked with cookware, dining ware, Keurigs, and drip coffee makers. Bring K-cup pods for the Keurigs and your beach/bath towels.
Grilling
Each cabin has a propane grill.
Pets
Pets are allowed in Cabins 1, 2, and 3 for a cleaning fee. Also note a few Good Neighbor rules:
—No wet animals in the cabins. If you need to bring a wet pet inside, please bring a kennel they can use.
—Pick up after pets. Dispose of waste in the woods behind the parking lot. Shovels are available if needed.
—Please make use of leashes if other visitors are in camp. The friendliest of dogs can be scary to small children, and the most well-behaved pet can find a full picnic table too tempting to pass up. Believe us, we know from experience!
Internet
Internet speed is up to 25 Mbps, fast enough for checking phones and surfing. Streaming is possible, but quality will vary depending on the number of users.
Fireplaces
Cabins 1 and 2 have wood-burning fireplaces, with complementary firewood. Cabin 3 has a freestanding gas stove and Cabin 4 has a gas fireplace.
Air Conditioning
Cabins 1 and 3 have heat pumps, Cabin 2 has a window AC unit, and Cabin 4 has central cooling.
Swimming Area
The beach is mostly sandy and the swimming area has no current. The shallow water around the dock is rocky, and beyond the end of the dock the lake bottom is sandy and stays fairly shallow as far as 100 feet out. It’s a treat!
Waterfront toys include a RAVE Sports water trampoline and an Aqua Lily Pad float.
Fishing
For muskie, pike, and walleye, Leech Lake offers some of the best fishing in the state. Carlson’s is a short boat ride from the popular pike-fishing waters of Headquarters Bay, and there are active walleye holes just beyond the harbor rocks.
Weather
Some summer days reach in excess of 90 degrees F, and others get chilly enough to make use of the fireplaces in each cabin. The occasional storm can whip up a driving rain and whitecaps, preventing boating and waterfront activities.
Wildlife
Mallard ducks around the swimming dock are a regular sight , and many nights you’ll hear the calls of loons far out on the lake. Camp bird feeders are alive with wrens, orioles, hummingbirds, and Bald Eagles are common, with nearby Chippewa National Forest one of the best places in the country to catch a glimpse of the majestic birds. Other occasional visitors include otters, owls, and pelicans.
