& Area Attractions
Fishing
Muskie, Northern Pike, Walleye, Large-Mouth Bass, Yellow Perch… Leech has it all! Carlson’s is about a 15-minute boat ride from Headquarters Bay, one of our favorite areas to troll for Pike and Muskie.
Swimming
Carlson’s has a shallow swimming area with a wonderfully sandy bottom starting just beyond the end of the dock.
Watersports
On the calm days, the waterfront and nearby bays are ideal for waterskiing without the crowds. On the white-cap days, it’s time to get the floats out and catch the waves.
Turtle races
Decreed the Turtle-Racing Capital of the World by the Minnesota Legislature in 1989, nearby Longville hosts the popular main-steet races on Wednesday afternoons all summer long.
Mississippi headwaters
The 2,500-mile Mighty Mississippi has its origins in the waters of Lake Itasca State Park, where you can ride an inner tube along the river or walk 18 feet from one bank of it to the other. Itasca is about an hour’s drive from Carlson Cabins.
Longville,
population 174
The small lake-country town of Longville, on the shores of Girl Lake, offers restaurants, coffee shops, yard sales, and grocery shopping about a 10-minute drive from Carlson’s.
Walker on Walker Bay
From Crazy Days and farmers’ markets to the concerts of Moondance, local theater, and the Leech Lake Regatta, the city of Walker has a packed summer schedule.
Sunset viewing
It never gets old :)
